"When minimum isn't enough call MAXIM, we treat your home
like it's our own."

Mold Remediation and Cleanup
Mold doesn't just decide to grow in your home or office. It is always the
result of some sort of moisture problem.
There are about just as many possible
causes of moisture problems within the
building envelope as there are species of
mold. Be that as it may, a professionally trained inspector should be able to
identify a) whether or not you have a mold problem and b) what the source of
that problem is. We encourage you to research your inspector and make sure that
he or she isn't just Joe down the street with a Petri dish and cue-tip calling
him or herself a mold inspector. Find out where he or she got certified, what
equipment they use, who performs their sample analysis, and what type of
knowledge they have about building science.
Mold
remediation typically involves two areas of focus:
1.)
Isolating and treating the cause of the fungal contamination.
2.)
Removal and clean-up fungal contaminated materials.
Mold
requires both a source of moisture and food to grow. Food is readily available
throughout our houses in the form of wood, carpet, paper, etc. Conversely,
moisture intrusion is usually easier to isolate and prevent in a building
environment. Flashing failures, plumbing leaks, flooding, high humidity and
inadequate ventilation are common culprits of moisture intrusion. A variety of
specialists such as plumbers, roofing contractors and drainage technicians can
all be utilized to solve your problem. Cleaning
up the current fungal
contamination without first addressing the moisture issue will only provide a
temporary solution to a long term problem.
After
the cause of the moisture intrusion has been determined, the next step is the
removal and clean-up of affected materials. First our team determines which
items can be salvaged through dry-out and cleaning and which require removal.
This can be as simple as scrubbing and disinfecting a small area of sheetrock.
Larger projects with extensive water damage and mold growth can require removal
of sheathing, framing, carpeting and other contaminated materials.
The
very nature of mold remediation aerosolizes thousands of mold spores and if not
performed correctly can lead to widespread distribution of contaminants. On
larger projects this is prevented through isolation and filtration techniques
with air scrubbers and negative air machines. MAXIM has both the equipment and
technical expertise to handle the most complex mold remediation problems.
