3 Good Reasons Spring is the Best Time for Air Duct Cleaning

Spring is here and It’s finally warming up outside! Now’s the time you want to open your windows to let the dry winter air escape your home to make way for that fresh spring breeze. The thought of spring cleaning lingers in your mind, and you must ask yourself, “where do I start?” Air duct cleaning may not be the first thing on your mind, but it’s the best time of the year to do so. Below we list some reasons why spring is the best time for air duct cleaning.

Dust + Humidity = Mold

How often do you dust your furniture? Maybe once or twice a week or maybe not at all. And even then, in between days of dusting it seems like it never stays shiny. Imagine what your air ducts look like after a year of use! Over time, that dry winter dust will accumulate in your ducts and develop a sticky texture to it. As the seasons change, that sticky dust can cause mold when it is exposed to the spring and summer humidity. Springtime here in Nebraska is the perfect time for an air duct cleaning! Cleaning your air ducts in spring, before they become a larger problem, is wise, especially if anyone in your family has respiratory issues.

Improved Air Quality

When spring arrives, trees bud and flowers bloom, so there are a lot of pollens and allergens in the air. To avoid them getting into your home and wreaking havoc on your family's respiratory system, clean your air ducts. Your pet's fur can also make its way into your ventilation system. And if someone in your home smokes, the chemicals from the cigarettes spread throughout the house through the vents, too.

Your System Needs a Break

As you transition from winter to spring and then to summer, you’re likely not using your furnace or air conditioner very often. Many people take this opportunity to open their windows instead. This makes it a perfect time to clean your air duct system while it’s not being used. Since the system must be turned off while being cleaned, the spring temperatures won’t make you and your family uncomfortable cold or hot during the process.

Best Days to Take Advantage of Duct Cleaning

Yes, spring is a great time to have your air ducts cleaned. But what types of days are best for this job?

  • Rainy days — Rain confines pollens to the ground or trees, and, in some cases, washes them away entirely. A rainy day, when pollens aren't floating through the air, is the perfect time to have your air ducts cleaned because fewer pollens will enter your home through your opened windows.
  • Cool temperatures — Hot, dry temperatures only make pollens worse. If cooler temperatures are coming, Check the forecast. If it predicts cooler weather, it might be a good idea to schedule an air duct cleaning.
  • End of spring — Anytime in spring is a good time for duct cleaning, but the end of spring is ideal. Most plants are fully bloomed, meaning there is less pollen in the air.

So, whether it’s been several years since you last cleaned your air ducts, or just a few years, take advantage of this optimal time for cleaning. You’ll have a peace of mind knowing your air duct system is clean. When you’re ready to tackle those air ducts, reach out to Maxim Cleaning & Restoration. We are not referring to the play by Eugene O’Neill (for more information, visit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ The_Iceman_Cometh ). Ice is nice … in a drink or to skate on … but NOT in your home or business. Here in Omaha and Council Bluffs, we are all too familiar with the types of havoc that ice and fluctuating temperatures can wreak outside, in our streets and our yards. Sadly, some of us know that frozen pipes can have a devastating effect inside our homes as well. Frozen water expands, and when that ice is inside pipes, this can cause your pipes to crack. Then, once the ice melts, the water will seep out of the resulting openings. You can easily end up with a flood somewhere in your home. In light of recent extreme weather, you may have realized that there is little time left to prepare your home for winter weather. The American Red Cross recommends that homeowners drain water from swimming pools and sprinkler supply lines before temperatures drop. Hoses used outdoors should be drained and stored. Adding insulation to attics, crawl spaces and basements will also help. Another good idea is turning on an indoor faucet to a trickle in extreme freezing weather, using hot water if possible. You can also open the kitchen and bathroom sink cabinet doors on cold nights to allow the warmer air to enter those areas. The Weather Underground has additional recommendations to keep you safe during the winter months. Stock up on products to melt ice on walkways, sand for improved traction, snow shovels or other snow removal equipment, seasoned wood for your fireplace or wood-burning stove. Make sure you have adequate clothing and blankets. Have a Family Plan to follow in case of emergencies, including contacts, meeting places and steps to take. Minimize travel, but keep a disaster supply kit in your vehicle. Should you have water damage due to this or any other reason, please call MAXIM Cleaning and Restoration at 402-697-9004. We are here to serve.
